| Simon and Shanay. Simon is a soldier in the British Army and is currently employed at the Infantry Trials and Development Unit (ITDU) in Warminster, Wiltshire. He is responsible for Equipment Support to the Units vehicles and asissts in the numerous trials of new and current vehicles that are on operational deployment around the globe. He has worked on many projects including the introduction of the Mastiff, MWMIK and ATV's into service. His partner in this endeavour is the youngest member of the pack, Shanay or Rajarani Tarevachine to quote her full name. At 17 months she is quite new to the canicross world but is already proving to be a formidable runner.
Cushla and Takoda. Cushla works full time at the Devizes School, Devizes, Wiltshire, but her talents don't stop there, as she is also a 'Puppy School' tutor, helping new puppy owners and their puppies learn training and socialisation skills for life. Accompanying Cushla is Kriserliz Satans Angel, aka Takoda, aka Koda. He is a 4 years young unguided missile when let loose, and a tree sniffer when initially on the lead, but a fabulous canicrosser and once he has caught up with the local gossip, he will run on and on and on and on.
Nicky with Frazey and Pogue. Nicky Hutchison introduced the sport of Canicross to the UK in 2001 and, with musher Matt Hammersley, originally founded Canicross UK to offer dedicated dog running races and to promote the sport. Nicky has a pack of 8 Siberian Huskies who she has trained to mush, canicross and to do fun agility. When not canicrossing around the Forest of Dean where she lives, Nicky (AKA Weirdwolf) works as a dog behaviourist and for several years has run puppy training classes for Gwen Bailey's Puppy School as well as adult classes and 'obility' (a mixture of obedience and agility). More recently Nicky set up Canicross Trailrunners with Cushla and Simon Lamen to concentrate on more extreme long-distance canicross adventures - much to the delight of her dogs. She is a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers and strongly believes that doing training and activities like canicross on a regular basis can engage dogs mentally as well as physically and so help prevent many problem behaviours developing. Nicky is currently studying for a qualification in Canine Massage with the aim of learning about how the therapy can help prevent injuries, promote healing and enhance performance in working and active dogs. |
