Canicross is the sport of running over off-road with your dog. You wear a waistbelt which attaches via a 2-metre bungee line to a padded dog harness. It is a good way to keep you and your dog fit whilst enjoying the great outdoors together. It provides a physical workout for your dog and the use of directional commands will help him to learn to use his brain and build up his confidence.
Canicross can help you: Get running! Foster strong bonds with your dog Improve some dog behaviour problems such as those caused by lack of exercise and stimulation Run faster! Keep fit and control your weight Get to know the great outdoors Your dog will: Enjoy more outdoor exercise Use his brain power and gain confidence Get fit and keep trim Improve strength and stamina in other sports Have fun!
Canicross Trailrunners are a group of canicross enthusiasts who want to inspire other dog-trailrunners to use the local landscape and to enjoy exciting dog adventures off-road.
We welcome those who have no experience but want to get fit with their dog in a non-competitive, friendly and supportive environment. People are able to start canimarching (walking) and can progress to canicross at their own speed.
We want to involve dog-runners who are tired of the usual 5k mapped roads and want a bit of off-road excitement on longer novel trails with a bit of zing. We positively invite canicrossers who want to improve their dog handling and running skills with the support of like-minded runners who can bring new ideas, different trails and the companionship and motivation to get out and run.
Canicross Trailrunners are keen to get competitive canicrossers to take part in our own off-road events as well as those offered by traditional running organisations. In this way we can offer a variety of location, terrain, distance and technicality to competitive canicrossers.
We aim to make canicross accessible to all-comers by offering practical assistance: Training, progress monitoring and support for beginners and their dogs Promoting kind, reward-based motivational training methods to get the best from canicross dogs Group or one-to-one canicross training Free regular training runs in a variety of locations Easy access to Canicross Trail Runners events A central source on other dog-friendly running races Information on high quality, affordable kit Providing a fun, friendly, innovative and supportive environment for dogs and their owners. Holding fun dog events where club members can take part in fun canicross events such as caniteering, canihashing and caniobility. Offering day and evening courses on canicross-related subjects |
